about
Work is now well under way with the debut album 'The Last Crusade'.
In the meantime, this track is available for you as a taste of things to come. The lyrics for the song were written while on tour in Afghanistan back in 2010 and the acoustic guitar was written one dark night a few months later. Here's the story behind the lyrics:
This is a completely new remix of the track with new recordings of all parts except the electric/lead guitar which was, to these ears at least, perfect from the get-go.
Thanks to Craig Hughes for the outstanding lead guitar work and Ally Tennick for the drums on this version of the track. Both are members of Dog Moon Howl (www.facebook.com/DogMoonHowl/) and the Craig Hughes Two (www.facebook.com/craighughesmusic/), I highly recommend you check them out!
And HUGE thanks to Ali Easton for the immense bass line...
lyrics
BIRDSONG
Former glories, hidden close to your chest
Behind circles of metal wearing colours abreast
Bedtime stories, tales of knights and their quests
Of heroes and maidens, treasure carried on chests
Don't sing songs in our memory
You don't know the words
Don't regale us with stories
The truth needs to be heard
Listen instead for the life we've preserved
The sounds you ignore as you walk through your day
Heed what we say as we give you our word
They're the reason we came here and were willing to stay
Don't sing songs in our memory
You don't know the words
Don't regale us with stories
The truth needs to be heard
When the bird breaks its silence, listen close to the song
It was there in our haven, it followed us on
When the bird breaks its silence, don't ignore what it sings
It was there as we struggled, as young men became Kings
When the bird breaks its silence, listen through to the end
It was there as they fought, those great lions of men
When the bird breaks its silence, you'll all get to see
The reasons you live in the land of the free

The lead guitarist and drummer performed on my track Birdsong. That's not important though. What is is the fact their band plays some low down filthy rock. And it's great! Scædunengan
